NetBenefit issues a call to action to UK government
Following recent news that a number of .gov.uk sites are being hosted in Sunnyvale, California, UK managed hosting provider, NetBenefit has raised the question of why the UK Government is not investing in the UK, instead choosing to place the security and availability of its data in the hands of US hosting providers.
Through the London Internet Exchange (LINX), London has one of the world’s largest Internet exchange points, making it one of the best places to host in the world. LINX has over 200 Gigabits per second of peak internet traffic, an increase of 1500% in the last five years. Membership numbers are at an all time high, reflecting the strength and resilience of the Internet infrastructure in the UK.
Jonathan Robinson, chief operating officer, NetBenefit, explains: "It is true that business critical websites need to be resilient, secure and highly available wherever they are in the world. The investment that has been made in the UK network ensures it is one of the best in the world. It’s time the UK government starting putting its money where its mouth is by supporting UK businesses and investing in the future."
